What is Dark Markets?
Dark Markets is a price discovery platform for markets that lack transparent pricing. The first application is darknet marketplaces, where illegal substances are bought and sold, but where no one publishes reliable, continuous pricing data.
Public health agencies, law enforcement, academic researchers, and policy organisations all need to understand what's happening in these markets. Right now, they rely on retrospective academic research that typically publishes months or years after the events it describes. By then, the damage is done. Fentanyl was appearing on darknet markets 18-24 months before public health agencies had the data to mount a response.
Dark Markets provides that data in something close to real time, using prediction markets and a distributed network of independent data collectors to produce continuous price intelligence.
